We turned a hunch into a measurement.
Founded in Pune in 2023, TameOwl exists because the most confident hiring decisions were also the least examined.
Meera Deshpande
Founder & CEO
Meera spent years inside hiring rooms watching capable people get passed over — and unproven ones wave through — on the strength of a first impression. The pattern was always the same: someone "just knew" within five minutes, and nobody ever checked whether they were right.
So she checked. Going back through decisions where the outcome was known, the confident-in-five-minutes call held up about 55% of the time. Barely better than a coin flip, dressed up as intuition. That number became the whole thesis: judgment isn't the problem — unmeasured judgment is. TameOwl was founded to give hiring teams the evidence their instincts were missing.
- Not measured until we went back and scored the outcomes.
- Not repeatable — every interviewer weighted different things.
- Not fair — it rewarded polish and pedigree over ability.
Four principles behind every rubric.
Structure over impressions
Ask every candidate the same things and score them the same way. Structure is what makes two interviewers' notes comparable at all.
Evidence, not noise
A confident handshake, a familiar university, a well-formatted résumé — none predict performance. We measure the work, not its packaging.
Bias reduction by design
Anonymised work samples, anchored scales and consistent criteria shrink the room where lookalike and affinity bias operate.
Fairness for the unproven
Candidates without a brand-name track record deserve a chance to demonstrate ability. Evidence lets talent without pedigree be seen.
Built in Pune, for hiring teams anywhere.
TameOwl is headquartered in Pune, Maharashtra — close to one of India's densest concentrations of engineering and analytics talent. We design and deliver screening-as-a-service engagements remotely, plugging into the way your team already hires.
"We don't ask hiring managers to trust their gut less. We ask them to point that judgment at evidence — the work a candidate actually produced — instead of the impression they made in the first five minutes." — Meera Deshpande, Founder & CEO
